EO team to Farmer to Farmer Harrisburg, Liberia November 2018
Thank God for another successful Farmer-to-Farmer journey to Harrisburg, Liberia. Six members from churches across East Ohio Conference left Cleveland Hopkins Airport on November 3rd and arrived in Liberia on the 4th of November. And the good news is, Farmer-to-Farmer Operations in Liberia will begin to move forward faster with Pastor Ray and Cathy on the ground, we thank God for letting them see the vision for His people in that corner of the globe. To God be the glory.
Our team spent a lot of time building relationships with community leaders; meeting with elementary school leaders in the community; meeting with the new Commissioner to share the Farmer-to-Farmer vision for the Harrisburg Community; meeting with the Liberia Annual Conference leaders. We are so thankful that God is really leading us to a higher place in His service.
Although we had a lot to accomplish in two weeks, I want to believe that we did the best we could to get the ball rolling. One major project we had to do was to clear the 37.5 acres of land to give us a better view of the contour of the land, which enabled us to select a better location to build the campus and the farm. We did many other minor projects: like purchasing a generator for the Sewing Center to replace the broken one; painting classrooms and creating a pleasant environment for students to learn; we purchased school supplies for the elementary schools in the community; we installed the 1,000 gallon water reservoir to supply water to the guest house; and built a garage and storage for the F2F car that is in transit to Harrisburg. And on a personal level, team members traveled 3 hours one way to The UMC High School in Gbarnga to make a laptop presentation.
Also, in three weeks, we will have a bulldozer for a day, to clear 17 acres for farming and 20 acres for the high school campus. We plan to grow vegetables in the farming area and Kentucky bluegrass on the high school campus area. The grass seeds are urgently needed for planting to prevent the fast-growing vegetation from coming back.
