Puerto Rico Response Respuesta a Puerto Rico

Tom Vencuss, Puerto Rico Phase 2 Coordinator

Tymera Jackson, Puerto Rico Phase 2 Assistant Coordinator

The response to serve in Puerto Rico is in Phase 2! Volunteers are needed to help the Methodist Church of Puerto Rico as they recover from the effects of Hurricanes Irma and Maria.  Registrations are now being taken for Long-Term Recovery (LTR) Teams.

Interested teams are encouraged to visit this link to express their interest in serving:

Intent to Serve in Puerto Rico

All registrations will be received by the Puerto Rico Phase 2  Coordinator, who will handle follow-up, screening, and scheduling of teams in conjunction with his counterpart from the Methodist Church of Puerto Rico.

Once a team receives an invitation and confirmation to serve, required insurance can be purchased through the North Central Jurisdiction, North East Jurisdiction, Western Jurisdiction, or Southeast Jurisdiction. The Methodist Church of  Puerto Rico requires $50,000 international coverage that includes emergency medical evacuation coverage.

Volunteers must be 18+ and in good physical condition due to environmental and infrastructure concerns on the island.  Please read the full set of Guidelines for Volunteers from the Methodist Church of Puerto Rico.

Church-to-Church Partnerships

Long-term relationships between mainland churches and churches in Puerto Rico are being encouraged through Church-to-Church. This program creates opportunities for establishing long-term partnerships as churches are rebuilt and lives are enriched through a collaborative agreement.

Start with the PowerPoint presentation to see the need. Next, use the CTC-Intent to Serve form to be connected with a local church in Puerto Rico.

NCJ grant funds for a translator are still available for teams serving in Puerto Rico. Requirements:  Safe Sanctuary training, background checks, and team insurance. Team leaders can contact Tammy at umvimncj.coor@gmail.com for more information.
